Implantation failure

What is implantation failure?

Implantation failure is considered to occur when two or more cycles of In Vitro Fertilisation have been carried out without achieving pregnancy.

After three unsuccessful IVF cycles, complementary techniques on the embryo, including Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), are advised to continue with the couple’s diagnosis.

Contents

Often, chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo are the invisible cause of implantation failure. It has been estimated that approximately 72 % of the embryos analysed in these cases present chromosomal abnormalities.

The tool that allows us to evaluate the chromosomal endowment in the embryo is Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT). This diagnostic method provides information about the status of each conceived embryo before transferring it to the maternal uterus. This way, chromosomally healthy embryos can be selected. The PGT technique is the result of combining In Vitro Fertilisation and genetic analysis.
