Institut Marquès was founded over 100 years ago in Barcelona and has become an international reference centre for Assisted Reproduction, with locations in Spain (Barcelona and Sabadell) and Italy (Rome and Milan). Specialising in particularly difficult cases, it bases its results on the customisation of reproductive medicine, its team’s experience and the use of the latest techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility.
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is one of the most effective and well-known techniques in the field of Assisted Reproduction. This procedure involves fertilising an egg in the laboratory using sperm from either the partner or a sperm donor. Subsequently, the resulting embryo or embryos are transferred to the patient’s uterus.
IVF with donor eggs, also known as Egg Donation, is an Assisted Reproduction technique involving In Vitro Fertilisation with eggs from a donor and the partner’s sperm (or a sperm donor’s).
It is the best option for those patients whose eggs are of insufficient quality to result in a successful pregnancy.
The ROPA Method, also known as Shared Motherhood (ROPA stands for Reception of Oocytes from the Partner), has become an increasingly popular choice among lesbian couples.
It involves an In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment shared by both women: one undergoes ovarian stimulation to provide the eggs and her partner carries and gives birth.
The eggs are obtained through ovarian puncture and are fertilised with donor sperm, just like in an IVF treatment.
Artificial Insemination is a basic Assisted Reproduction technique that involves monitoring the ovulatory cycle and then introducing a sperm sample into the woman’s uterus. This sample is previously prepared in the laboratory to optimise its quality.
Embryo Adoption (or embryo donation) is an Assisted Reproduction technique that involves the transfer of embryos remaining after an IVF cycle to a woman. She, therefore, carries the genetic material of other people.
These embryos come from healthy couples under 35 years old who, after treatment, do not want to have more children. Furthermore, a large percentage of these embryos come from egg or sperm donation cycles and, therefore, have a high implantation potential.
Egg or Oocyte Vitrification is an Assisted Reproduction technique that consists of freezing a woman’s eggs so that she can use them in the future when she decides to become a mother. It also allows for the preservation of fertility if she must undergo any medical treatment that may affect her eggs.
Complementary techniques increase the chances of achieving pregnancy. The recommendations are always personalised according to the diagnosis and treatment of each patient.
