IMSI

What is IMSI?

Selecting the best sperm is crucial for the success of In Vitro Fertilisation. In our new IVF laboratory, we have IMSI (intracytoplasmic morphologically-selected sperm injection) technology, which allows sperm to be magnified by up to 16 000 times so that those with the best morphology can be selected and then used to fertilise the egg through intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

Until now, the conventional system was used to perform sperm selection, which allowed them to be magnified up to a maximum of 400 times.

When is IMSI recommended?

This technique is particularly recommended for cases of:

  • Repeated implantation failures after conventional ICSI.
  • Men with severe teratozoospermia.
  • Men with mildly pathological results in the sperm DNA fragmentation study.
  • Long-standing unexplained infertility.

A Magnification Twenty Times Greater Than in ICSI

With the IMSI technique, eviewing is performed at a magnification twenty times greater than in ICSI or conventional insemination. This allows sperm to be examined individually and in detail so that those with intracellular alterations, .  such as vacuoles, can be discarded. The presence of vacuoles is directly related to chromatin alterations (genetic load of sperm). As a result, fertilisation rates are increased
